@Milagros :D

Pero kung type mo yung violin ni Kewlit, and to spare you the trouble of bidding, paying online and customs taxation, pwede mo din kunin yung bachendorff niya.

@Kewlit
Please post your violin sa Market thread and add some more detailed information including angled photos of the instrument (front, side back, scroll and side photos)

@Miracle and Kewlit
Please post your introduction sa Make your first hello thread!! Welcome to the Forum and enjoy your stay!

@Miracle: heto non-expert advice. usually (but not always) mass-production/machine made ang violin kapag:

1. Price is below 5,000.
2. Pegs slip when tuning/playing (assuming ipapa-play ng shop yung violin)
3. Plastic tailpiece.
4. "ebonized" fittings and fingerboard. (gotta love that word. ^_^)
5. purfling is drawn, not inlaid.

i think yun ang mas basic na tingnan at mas madaling i-gauge ng ordinary person like me. but as you go along learning more about violins, i think mas madali mo na ma-a-identify ang machine-made and handcrafted.

1. Price is below 5,000. *Maliban pag bidding with no reserve*
2. Pegs slip when tuning/playing (assuming ipapa-play ng shop yung violin) *Old handmade violins do slip because of shrunken wood*
3. Plastic tailpiece. *D pako nakakita lol pero meron nga ata saka bakal*
4. "ebonized" fittings and fingerboard. (gotta love that word. ^_^) *Ung aken pinblack lang siya pero redwood*
5. purfling is drawn, not inlaid. *Talamak! ahahahah*

welcome to the club, Miracle! hehehe... kaya ko lang alam yan kasi ganyan din violin ko! haha... but don't worry, by starting with student violins, you learn to appreciate those with better craftsmanship and tone. after ng debate sa machinemade vs. handcrafted, ang magiging dilemma mo na is Old vs. New violins. tapos Guarneri vs. Stradivarius. LOL...

@Miracle

identified hehehehe!

for me its hard to believe na hand made ang bachendorf, partial cguro like ung paglalagay ng mga fittings and bridge,, para makagawa ka ng handmade violin like ung gnagawa ni amador tamayo it took them at least one year to finish one violin minsan inaabot pa ng 2 years. and comparing his price i thnk ranges from 1500-1800$ to other makers abroad cost 8000$ up.. and bachendorf cost only around 300-400$ kawawa nmn ung mga makers nila kung ganun lang kamura ang mga violins nila.

i think pwede namang hand-made yung violins ng bachendorff. it just comes down to (the quality of the) craftsmanship, i think. :)

OT: i wonder bakit umaabot ng 1 year ang pag-gawa ng violin ni mang amador? just curious...

@ bursky, theory ko lang. kasi madami din orders sa kanya and madami repairs. so bottleneck na yung mga orders, kaya umaabot ng 1 year.
another theory is super detailed. he's an artist after all kaya he would love to make the most out of his every masterpiece. IMHO lang yan. hehe...

@ jason, agree with bursky about the bachendorff advanced violins. but you have a point as well since commercialized company na nga naman sila. hehe...

anyway, as long as you're happy with what you have, then that's what matters most.

enjoy playing!

Pwedeng hand made pero eto mga possibilities kumbaket mura :

1. parts are hand made (possibly in Europe) ... and assembled in China - Nabasa ko to as website ng Hoffner....4 or 5 years ago.

2. Hand made pero *by Different people - parang assembly line ng Cars noong 1930s .... ganto ang case ng mga Eastern European made violins...

ang mas nakakatakut kung ang Claim is hand made *by a single luthier pero hindi naman pala ... :s

@Carl , Bursky

@Gian
nasabi ko ba seo un about the scroll ? ... para kxeng hndi pa eh ... :-?

Ordinary string pero maganda ang sound, what more kung mag Dominant or Evah pa cya.

So mas less defect, better quality.

Or Hofner (kung kasya ang 5k na made in china)
