| Greetings PV!
Eau de Toilette ang plano kong gamitin at ito ay alcohol base ^^;
Thank you!

| Tal, anything alcohol based or any liquid is Generally BAD.... You will have to bear with the bad smell kung di mo trip ang insenso... pero it might have something to do with the type of Rosin you are using since pareho 'to ng ingredient !!! I hope you do a thorough search sa internet before doing something.... sayang naman lalo na kung Hand Crafted na ang violin mo..... o_O Better to consult a professional luthier than do "auto-medication" ... X_X BTW, may thread na dito sa Site about violin care, and liquids.... I suggest to the Mods to separate them from the MAIN Thread kasi ***natatabunan ng posts ng mga bagong members na Repeat Posts / Multiple posts na....

| Hello to all,
I thought I'd add my two cents...
Old or vintage guitars sometimes have the same problem, that is, they sometimes smell musty or worse. In one of the magazines that I read, they recommended using baking soda powder mixed with a few grains of uncooked rice. You shake the baking soda and rice inside the body of the guitar or violin, and then shake it out of the f-holes (some guitars, known as Archtops, are built like violins, with F-holes instead of the usual round holes). You then use a mini vacuum cleaner (like the one used for computer keyboards) to remove the remaining baking soda powder inside. The vacuum cleaner can also be used to blow out the powder.
I tried this on one of my old archtop guitars, and it worked. Took the smell away. Although I had to shake out the baking soda afterwards, but then, the baking soda it does not damage the wood in any way. After this, of course, you will have to wipe your violin thoroughly, but no harm should come to the finish.
Another method, if you are worried about the baking soda, is to put the baking soda in clinical gauze or a teabag, or some porous material that will not let the powder out. Tape that up, and put this inside the violin. Leave it there for maybe two to three days. That should help get the smell out, but I tried this, and it did not get all of the bad smell out. The direct contact of the baking soda with the wood is more effective.
Well, I hope this helps...

| @ Cube.root.sam. Did you try this method? Carbon (It may be Carbon sand or Little pieces of Charcoal) in Teabags and Puting it inside the Violin? While doing the Baking Powder Method co'z Carbon are Good Filter and Good Air Contaminant Absorber than Baking Powder Because it do not Require Contact .. Plus Carbon or Charcoal Have no Harmfull Effects on The Violin (Maybe the Charcoal might spread if not Carefully Placed inside the Teabag ahaha!) |

| Hello Kanji,
The method I described kasi, the baking soda really comes into contact with the wood while shaking the body... Powder form yung baking soda, so any minute imperfections in the wood or pores kung saan pwedeng nagpermeate yung amoy, pwede nya pasukin at i absorb, kung ano man yung cause ng smell...
But you are right, the Charcoal method will also work... What others do, pag nasa case yung guitar or violin, they leave the teabag or whatever the charcoal is wrapped in for a few days, then carefully remove it... The baking soda method, however, after the treatment, tanggal na amoy, although sometimes mga tatlong beses gagawin para magka effect at matanggal talaga lahat ng amoy...

Maraming salamat Cube! |
