Hinde!? ikaw naman o, ibig kong sabihin, kagaya ng sinabi mo ung "pag popularize ni Viotti ng Strad sa mg french" ^^; in same respect din, kailangan natin din ma introduce sa class ng ibang lahi si Tamayo. hinde ung takot dahil "gruesome" ang Tamayo violin, takot na dahil hinde pinagkakatiwalaan pa "fear of the unknown & uncertainty"

@ rommelcamba: maraming salamat sir Rommel! 1500usd ang price ni Mr. Amador para sa Master violin niya? Gusto ko rin maka subok ng Tamayo. Bakit ba may listing? dahil mga customize violin ba iyun? may ready made na violin kaya si Mr. Amador?

He he he, tatawagan ko rin siya mamaya o bukas, hinahanda ko lang ung listahan ng aking mga katanungan ^^;

@Tal: walang ready made na violin si sir amador. even if you have cash ready, pipila ka talaga. I offered to buy a violin he just finished but he simply said may pila e. another option is to convince those who already own one to sell but so far no one wants to sell his/her amador tamayo violin. a foreigner offered to buy one of the violins for 200K but the owner declined the offer.

someone I know in Texas owns a tamayo violin maybe it's her student violin. She was one of the best violinists here before she migrated. I think her master violin by sir amador will be finished in a few months.

I did search. some of the photos were taken by sir Joseph Esmilla. He studied in Juillard. I saw his violin J.F. Pressenda of Turin, circa 1830 at sir amadors shop. of course we were not allowed to touch it.

This topic just basically put into print the schizo-ish debate going through my head in the last decade. Na-windang at napa-pause ako sa trabaho. Napa-kape at lakad ng di-oras. It has been a wonderful read, thank you for sharing! Very enlightening. Though I'm still nowhere near to deciding who to go to to have one made. Intermediate lang naman, because I want to be able to enjoy it until I die (before it becomes a family heirloom piece) kasi hindi ko ata maabot ang master level in this lifetime.

In the meantime..tuloy ang research, aral, practice, at pag-ipon. (^^,)v

hi everyone,

I hadn't had a good read for quite a long time in the thread.
very good topic and very health conversation.

I would like to share my thoughts as well but Jake "Cute Worm" had said it already.
Totally agree with the car thing since I am a car enthusiast and a violin enthusiast as well.

Although, one of my reason for not purchasing Tamayo and Gabute violin, apart from I cannot afford it, is that I don't think I am worthy enough to play it since I am no skillful player.

Yes my violin is antique, but as Mr Tamayo said, that was a student violin way back 17th to 18th century. Thus, when used right now, due to its antique wood and being an antique violin in itself, it will really produce a good sound.

I am just a novice, a beginner, and I am very thankful for my violin right now because she is producing a very good sound despite my lack of skills.
However, if time permits and become a very skillful player, rest assured I will get a hold of one violin each from Mr Tamayo and Mr Gabute. I would want to wait for that time to come before I purchase them to justify my worth to them. Not their worth to me.

Just some of my cents....

@ li0nh3a12t: I respect your principles :D kaso talaga magkaibang pananaw tayo. On my part "You don't get what you deserve. You get what you want!" why settle for less if you can have more? right? kahit hinde tayo maging master violinist, we deserve something better... pag iipunan lang nga he he he. Iyun ang aking target, isang gastusan lang at iyun na ang aking tututukan, so I am looking for the best & the same time within my grasp[hinde ko kaya ng original na Strad o gaurneri ^^;]

And I am happy that your violin does you good service and you are enjoying it, very healthy :D

@ rommelcamba: sayang may pasok kasi ako pag weekdays ^^; sayang ung opportunity.

Hello everyone!

i once bought a violin made in china for a niece who was learning how to play the violin. it was a student violin and not really good. there is really nothing wrong about buying a second hand or an old violin, the older it gets the better it will sound. In fact, i would rather buy an old one than a new one as long as it's restored by a professional violin maker. my daughter has a french violin which is over a 100 year old and i swear, it has a beautiful tone. but then you can have a stravedari and your violin skills is not good enough, it won't matter very much. violin price in europe are very very expensive. some of them are loaned to extra-ordinary talented students because they are priceless. i have read that Amador Tamayo learned his craft in Hamburg and later on in Mittelwald. Mittelwald is a place in Germany where violins are produced but one doesn't have to go there to learn. maybe he went there to observe how the masters improve their craft in making violin. if he studied there, he must be very good. we call such as Geselle if he has a diploma but his works has still to be approved by a master luthier. i believe in the talent of pinoys, though.

madugong basahan ginawa ko ah..very interesting topic...
bigay ko lang comment ko....

to be honest di ko pa na ta-try yung mga local luthiers natin.
pero kung iisipin mo yung violin di nga appreciated dito sa pinas... yung selection natin na luthier napaka unti... sa thread na to 2 luthier lang na ririnig ko... eh pag international daming options and yun ang specialty nila and may competition sila.. you get my point? di nila monopolized ang market kaya nag papagandahan sila..

like i said no experience ako sa luthier dito..pero yun ang mentality ko..
I think filipino excels sa ibang bagay.. (like boxing :P joke)

I don't want to offend someone pero yun yung mentality ko.

Sir Amador is already approved luthier.
He stayed in Germany for 3 years, (quite short for him pa nga yun eh) but he was able to satisfactory finish requirements and pass the tests given by master trainers including Making his exam cello and playing on it.

Most of our professional musicians call to him for professional services for their instruments, and some of them use Commissioned violins made by Sir Amador.

debatable to...hehehe
medyo laylo ako..hehehe

I think magaling talaga si sir Tamayo. and marami syang ginawang strings instrument na nakakabilib..pero ang tanong eh... Meron kayang taga ibang bansang dinadayo pa yung gawa nya dahil talagang maganda?

Pero to be honest pag nag ka pera ako sakanya din ako papaayos ng violin..hehehe sya ang available dito eh :)
